Celebrate Earth Day: Upcycle Your Diamonds!

Earth Day Birthday

Regarded as the “King of all Birthstones,” diamonds make the ideal gift for April birthdays. I always say that diamonds don’t spoil. So, as we approach Earth Day, I challenge you to think about upcycling your diamonds into a new and wearable piece of art.

To inspire you, here are a few examples of custom recreations. Each project begins with inherited or unused fine jewelry items and results in new and custom pieces.

CUSTOM MOON INSPIRED DESIGN MADE FROM INHERITED RINGS

A while back a lovely gentleman had an idea to create a one of a kind ring. He inherited a lot of rings from various members of his family, and wanted to create one special ring to honor them all. He had an idea of creating a ring that looked like the surface of the moon. One crater sized design encrusted with diamonds.

A DIAMOND NECKLACE REDEFINED

I met with a new client to appraise all of her jewelry. As we were talking, she showed me a necklace that never sat well on her neck. It was made from an antique pin, with beautiful diamonds set in platinum. Though the design was gorgeous, the pin was hung horizontally and never sat well on her décolletage.

Typically, you want to center a necklace around this area. I listened to her concerns and she expressed, she wanted the necklace to move with her body.

Immediately, I knew what to do.

“OH BABY WHAT A RING”

A very good client asked me to work with one of her family members. He had inherited his father's gold and diamond ring, but disliked the style.

As a designer in his own right, he had a specific style of ring he wanted in mind, but wasn't sure how to execute it. This is where I came in.

I went to his design studio, sat with him for a bit, and explained to him how I could design this ring and the process it would take to create it.

EVERY DIAMOND IS UNIQUE

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a long-time client who also happens to be an incredibly talented photographer.

She mentioned to me she was coming to New York for a photoshoot, and I told her we should get together again.

During her brief time in the city, we discussed how I can transform her inherited diamond ring into a brand-new pendant to match her diamond earrings.

TIP: Everyone can wear diamonds. Just make sure that when you store your diamonds, they are not in direct contact with any other diamonds, as they can scratch one another.
