Infinite Diamonds, Fire Red Rubies

What happens when you have a special anniversary approaching and you can’t find the perfect piece of jewelry to gift your partner? You know she deserves the best of the best.

Simple - you have a one-of-a-kind piece custom made!

In honor of an upcoming anniversary, a longtime client reached out to me and asked about creating a custom ring with fire-engine red rubies and classic diamonds. She and her husband wanted something unique that could not be found in a store.

First, we had a conversation about how she wanted the ring to fit on her finger. She didn’t want something with a high setting that could potentially catch on clothing. Instead, she wanted it flush with an out-of-the-ordinary design. Next, she told me that she wanted eye catching fire-engine red rubies.

Following our conversation, I sent her a document with several design examples so she could pick and choose her favorite features. She lives out of the country and I was happy to communicate with her via email, text, and phone calls.

It took us months of collaborating to finalize the design, and then I was ready to create this completely unique piece for her.

I was thrilled to hand-select the diamond-cut rubies in a deep red color that I knew she wanted.

Once we had the rubies and the diamonds, I had a model made of the ring. Then, I had it cast in 18K gold. Finally, we had the gems set and polished.

Though my client lives out of the country, she visits New York City every so often. So when she was last here, I hand-delivered the ring. It was exactly what she wanted! She was overjoyed with this custom anniversary gift from her husband.

TIP: When you’re working with fine white diamonds, keep in mind that the colored stones you are setting alongside it should also be diamond cut. That way they have the same fire!
