Reinventing an Heirloom for Today's Elegance

In Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw notoriously wore the engagement ring Aidan gave her around her neck rather than on her hand. But what happens if you inherit a diamond engagement ring and don’t want to just string it on a chain around your neck?

This is exactly what happened with one of my clients who inherited a ring that she knew she was never going to wear.

This ring contained four straight baguettes and one larger emerald-cut diamond in the center. She contacted me to create something new with the diamonds. Before we could even begin, we needed to insure her ring. I connected her with the right people to do this and we continued the process.

Next, we worked together on several iterations of an initial design.

As always, I am happy to accommodate my process to each client’s individual needs. In this particular case, we worked in-person, through emails, and virtually on Zoom. We drew sketches and created multiple mock-ups. We had many conversations about the unique sizes of her baguettes so she felt completely comfortable and knowledgeable with the process.

Custom diamond pendant and necklace

Finally, we decided to create a simple and classic necklace with the large diamond and a matching pair of earrings with the remaining four baguettes.

These elegant and classic pieces can either be worn casually during the day or elevated for more formal occasions.

Whether you prefer to meet in New York City or online over Zoom, we can connect so that I can create custom fine jewelry for you out of your unused pieces.

Tip: Jewelry should not be held prisoner in your jewelry box! It should be worn and enjoyed. If you’re not fully enjoying any pieces in your collection, it might be time to consider updating their look, or repurposing entirely.

Please contact me with any questions.
