The Jewel is in the Lotus | Om Mani Padme Hum
A client of mine loves to travel. She really likes South East Asia and the interesting jewelry found there. Sometimes, living in New York City, she sees jewelry that is inspired by these cultures.
She bought a silver bracelet with a beautiful design. The letters are raised to give the impression of an intaglio design and spell out "Om Mani Padme Hum," or "the jewel is in the lotus," a key Tibetan Buddhist mantra.
She loved it, but always wanted it in gold.
One of her concerns, was that a silver bracelet is very pliable, and it wasn't perfectly round or even oval shaped from all the years of wear.
I worked closely with the jeweler to adjust the shape of the bracelet, make a model, and cast the new one. Since she loves rose-gold jewelry, we chose that as our base.
When you make a custom piece, you are able to choose whatever gold you like and make a final piece that is wholly unique to your taste.
When you duplicate something, it is vital to make sure you maintain the fine details of the original. Once this bracelet was casted, we had to finish with custom tool work to bring out all the details you see here.
The final product was better than she expected and she is incredibly happy with the result.
What are your favorite pieces inspired by other cultures that you would like to recreate or enhance in any way?
TIP: When duplicating or replacing a piece of jewelry, it is vital to maintain the integrity of the original design.
Let me know how I can help.
