Recreating a Beloved Ring

Custom three stone diamond ring

Sometimes in life we must part with sentimental items. At times we regret what we did.

Whether you are downsizing for a move, purging your space, or just trying to get rid of things to declutter; you may choose to sell some of your fine jewelry items.

This was the case with one of my long-time clients. While on vacation with her husband, she mentioned a ring from her grandmother that she no longer owned multiple times, and how she would love to have it recreated.

Heart shaped setting

When they returned, he called me and said we needed to create it for her Christmas gift.

To duplicate this style, we first looked through several design examples and discussed the type of diamonds to use. We chose old European-cut diamonds to keep with the original style of her grandmother’s ring. After reviewing eight potential styles, he chose a unique heart-shaped setting for the three stones.

Next, we needed to source old European-cut diamonds, which can be a difficult process. No two diamonds are alike, so it is essential to find ones that are as similar as possible.

There are fewer old European-style diamonds available as there is a limited inventory, compared with modern-cut diamonds. However, my client wanted these to keep the original style and integrity of the initial ring. I went the three different diamond dealers for the diamonds and eventually found the perfect gems for the ring.

When he gifted his wife the ring, it brought tears to her eyes.

Tip: Jewelry is more than just gold and stones; each piece has a feeling attached to it. If you have jewelry that you want to duplicate, enhance or part ways with, it is best to work with a seasoned professional.
