Finding Treasures in Your Jewelry Box
I worked with a dynamic Manhattan attorney who is a busy mother, who loves her jewelry, but doesn't have time to update her collection.
She invited me to look at her jewelry box full of necklaces and earrings that she was no longer enjoying.
The first way that I addressed this problem was to find out which pieces she cherished. As soon as I identified these, I saw simple solutions.
First, I took a simple strand of seed pearls she had, and updated them by adding a larger Akoya pearl in the middle to modernize the piece. I also perfectly matched the color and luster to complement her original seed strand. Now she has a pearl necklace that feels like a whole new piece.
I also noticed that she had this beautiful, thin diamond ring that I thought would be great as a stacking ring design.
I duplicated her single ring, made another in yellow gold and still another in white gold, so she had three. I also added diamonds and sapphires that she had to them. Now she has a three ring set.
I also did some minor repairs on her other jewelry, so everything she has is now wearable.
After years as a gemologist, my main strength for many of my clients is the ability to re-imagine their jewelry to create a signature statement that fits their lifestyle and current tastes.
TIP: Organizing your jewelry can help you find the value in all of your pieces. Often one piece can help cover the cost of redesigning another.
