Seven Rings for Seven Ladies
I always say: “Jewelry is more than just gold and stones. Every piece has a feeling attached to it.” That’s exactly what happened with this recent project.
My client was the executrix for three generations of women in her family. She came to me with a fun project. While I was appraising the estate, she mentioned to me that her mother’s favorite colors were navy blue and kelly green, which coordinated with several blue sapphires, emeralds and diamonds in the various pieces of the estate.
She mentioned that many of the pieces would rarely be worn by her family members, and had the idea to create seven coordinating rings. One for herself, her two sisters-in-law, her daughters, and her nieces (all four of her mother’s granddaughters).
During the appraisal process, I kept an eye on any pieces that I could repurpose using her mother’s favorite colors. There were seven women in this family that were inheriting jewelry and we decided to make seven rings, one for each of the women.
Here is a story on the pieces that eventually went to auction from that appraisal.
After this initial process, I developed seven unique design layouts around the gemstones. The stone configurations included the diamonds, blue sapphires, and emeralds I collected. Each woman chose whether she wanted white gold or yellow gold.
Once the custom made rings were set, polished and completed, they were delivered to each woman in the family. Now, they have a piece of their history that they can wear every day, and pass down to the next generation.
TIP: Inherited jewelry might not be your style, but you can always redesign it and make it your own, including the type of setting, metal, and overall look.
