Giving Your Diamonds a Second Life

Do you have a piece of jewelry in your collection that reminds you of a time you'd much rather forget?

In this case, yes. I had a client who had several pieces of diamond jewelry, including a diamond tennis bracelet, earrings and a few smaller pieces.

She had an idea of combining all the diamonds together into one spectacular ring.

This design was very complicated and intricate, and it took us several steps to create. First, we had to lay out the diamonds in a pattern that was slightly irregular, but also made sense when you looked at the ring from various angles.

Then, we made a hand-made three-part wax model, as pictured below.

The next step was to cast all three pieces in platinum and make sure the diamonds correctly fit together. We pre-polished the platinum and slowly set each diamond by hand.

Using both a setting style known as milgrain for the larger diamonds, and a bezel technique for the smaller diamonds along both edges of the ring, made for a challenging process and a one-of-a-kind end result.

Milgrain settings require skilled craftsmanship, precise design and hours spent creating "tiny dots" of metal, used to create the setting borders for each diamond.

This ring is now something my client can wear on a daily basis and enjoy for many years to come. I take pride in helping my clients turn their diamonds into something they can truly enjoy, and have a positive memory associated with it.

TIP: No design is too intricate for a skilled designer with decades of experience. If you have a style in mind, feel free to contact me and I can bring your image to life.

Any questions? I'd love to help you.
