From Stick Pin to Diamond Necklace
Some projects are worth walking across town for.
Being a New Yorker, sometimes there are delays in traffic and you have no other choice than to just walk.
A client of mine recently reached out about several pieces of jewelry she wasn't enjoying. She asked how I could help.
First, I sold some gold. Then, I restrung a strand of pearls.
She also showed me a diamond cluster pin she wasn't wearing and wanted to know what she could do with it (photographed).
My first thought was to make a few different necklaces of varying lengths to go with whatever she was wearing.
When I told her this, she wanted to do one long necklace that contained all of the diamonds from the original pin.
I removed the diamonds, utilized a gauge to ensure they were all the same size, and proceeded to have each diamond set in a bezel. Afterwards, my team and I assembled the diamonds on a link chain to create the final piece.
A benefit of designing such a custom piece is that I was able to use every diamond from the pin to create this classic design. Plus, the length was measured specifically for my client's body type.
Ultimately, I delivered the necklace in time for her to wear it for the holidays despite the lack of cross-town transit. And I got my steps in for the day :)
TIP: Nothing should go to waste with custom jewelry. If you have a piece you're not wearing, it can be completely recycled into something new.
Let me know how I can help,
