From Antique to Contemporary

You never know what ideas you’ll come up with during a consultation. Recently, a professional came to me for two simple fixes: resizing a wedding band and turning a tie bar into a necklace.

While we met and discussed the mechanics of her repair, she noticed the earrings I was wearing. Often called an “in-and-out” earring, these have a post that goes through the front and connects to a component in the back. She got the idea to create something similar.

We discussed redesigning her inherited ring with old mine-cut diamonds into a contemporary piece of jewelry. Mimicking the style of my earring and the original design of her ring, we created a brand new piece of art.

The first step was measuring her earlobe for a custom fit. Exact measurements are required for this design. Next, I took the earrings into my studio and created the back hanging section. Yet, after a bit of work, we ended up with a totally new earring that reminded her of the initial ring.

Working with my client on this project reminded me that anything can be created. All you need to do is connect with someone who understands the mechanics of your project like a jeweler, painter, or architect. Knowing who to work with can help your dream designs become reality.

Because of my varied experience in the fine jewelry industry and working in manufacturing, diamond/color stone buying, and retail, I’m able to create one of a kind pieces that you will not find anywhere else.

TIP: If you see someone wearing something you like, speak up! You might already have a piece in your collection that can be transformed into your style.
