Always Learning

Journal with the words "I am still learning. - Michelangelo, Age 87" written, next to the JBJewels logo.

As Michelangelo once said at age 87, "I am still learning."

During these past few years of the COVID Pandemic, I've had to adapt and readjust the way I run my business. For instance, I have spent less time in front of my clients as well as the partners I work with to create unique pieces of jewelry.

I've also learned to use Zoom and other virtual meeting platforms to connect with clients and help with their designs, so we can limit our face-to-face interactions.

Jane Becker of JB Jewels appraising a piece of fine jewelry. As an artist, appraisalist, and expert in her industry, Jane prides herself in "always learning" and adapting to meet her clients' needs.

The challenge is I still must see some people face-to-face.

However, because these meetings are limited, we work much more effectively with our time. All paperwork and specifics are taken care of before we even meet.

This streamlined process is one I did not expect, but one I enjoy due to its effectiveness.

As far as the appraising and selling side of my business, all I have to do is meet with a client once and I take care of the rest through my connections with auction houses and other buyers.

An unforeseen benefit is the ability to work with auction houses and other buyers without having to see them face-to-face, which allows me to show the items to many more buyers and receive the best possible offer.

Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, my business has flourished due to my ability to approach every situation and client as a lifelong learner. Like Michelangelo, I am still learning.

TIP: My business is primarily visual, but I can still design and do some appraisals online.
