Family Gold Redefined

Custom bracelet made from a watch fob

What do you do with your inherited jewelry when you don’t want to sell it? You know you want to wear it somehow, but the current design doesn’t suit your style.

Simple! You redesign it into something you’ll love to wear.

This situation happened with one of my recent clients. She inherited a meaningful piece of family history from her mother, a beautiful watch fob that went back to another gentleman in the family. My client loved the unique link design and had the idea to turn it into a bracelet which she would get much more wear out of.

However, it was too long for a bracelet and wrapped around her wrist twice.

Typically, watch fobs are longer in length than traditional bracelets. The links are distinctive and heavy, made of gold and held together with interesting clasps.

My client wanted to create a custom bracelet for herself and had her heart set on a double link, which would only make the bracelet heavier.

But, it allowed us to use all of the gold bars and original components from the watch fob.

Therefore, my job was to figure out the most effective arrangement of links so the bracelet would lay flat on her wrist, determine a strong enough clasp that would keep the bracelet on, and create a beautiful custom piece.

To achieve this, I recreated some of the unique links in between the larger rectangular bars. This was essential in creating symmetry within the double-link design.

When she received the bracelet, my client had one thing to say: Stunning!

Now, she has a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry that has been passed down within her family. While it has a new style, it is still the same gold that her family member wore throughout his life.

Tip: Gold and gems do not spoil. They can always be repurposed into a new piece of jewelry that you will love and wear forever.
