Diamonds are forever, but styles change.
Diamonds and gold don’t spoil, and when styles change to fit the fashions of the time, I help my clients re-imagine their jewelry.
Here are three beautiful examples of re-imagined diamonds.
This first piece has a great emotional attachment because it was inherited from the client’s aunt. The setting no longer suited her, so we updated the design to be more contemporary. Traditionally, diamonds were set with prongs or a bead setting. However, a bezel-set design fully surrounds the diamond in gold, which enhances the size of the diamond as well as its color.
Some women choose not to wear an engagement ring, either because they don’t want to wear a diamond on their finger anymore or they are no longer married. I designed this cluster pendant (below) to enhance my client’s engagement diamond by bringing in eight more diamonds to showcase it.
When women redesign their engagement rings into pendants, they tend to use the standard four-pronged setting. My client wanted something different, with a little more sparkle. We chose what I call a cluster setting, with very little metal showing, so that the fire of the diamonds is all you see.
This last example is one of the first pieces I designed, and whenever I see this client she’s still wearing it, ten years later. The fact that it is still so meaningful to her really speaks to me.
Her aunt, who had pretty much raised her, gifted her a platinum ring with two substantial diamonds in it. She wanted to create a unique necklace she could wear every day, in yellow gold. I prepared a couple different options for her, and she chose this design in a custom bezel setting, which places the diamonds close to each other. The chain is particularly unique as it is a triple-bead design, and very substantial. Both the chain and bezel are created in 18K yellow gold, which gives the necklace a warmer tone than if it were in 14K yellow gold.
It is important to me that when I design for my clients, my pieces withstand the test of time. This means that the styles suit who my clients are today, and are made substantially enough that they will not need repair or replacement.
Jewelry is meant to be worn. If there is something you’re no longer enjoying because of the style or for any other reason, I can help you fall in love with your jewelry all over again.
TIP: Always work with someone you can trust and communicate well with. You want your vision to come to life, and working with a seasoned professional who understands the mechanics of making jewelry and can advise you on the design is very important to creating a bespoke work of art.
