Custom Sapphire Sunrise Ring
Have you ever thought about your favorite time of day?
I have, mine is sunset.
I just had the pleasure of working with a client whose favorite time of day is sunrise over the ocean, and she commissioned me to create that feeling in a ring.
As a professional organizer, she needs to be able to use her hands all the time. She has a lovely diamond engagement ring that sits high on her finger, which is problematic to wear while she's working. She wanted something she could wear all day with the perfect color scheme.
Inspiration for color palette
Her ideal ring would have these specific elements:
Inspiration: Montana Sapphire
The ring would lay flush on her finger
Feature an octagonal shaped Montana sapphire, which gleams a teal green you don't see in other sapphires
Be surrounded by gems of other shapes
We included three little diamonds from a ring she wasn't enjoying and created the setting in rose-gold.
I went back and forth to my gem dealer to find the perfect color gems.
Once we found the right Montana sapphire, I had it cut into an octagonal shape. By the end of our design process, nine people had interacted with me to bring this ring to life.
The pandemic hit right after we had confirmed the gem selection, the model was done, and the gold was cast. Suddenly, everything was on hold.
She was so understanding about the unprecedented situation that she made my job easy. We kept in contact and as soon as restrictions were lifted, I set the gems in rose gold and finished the ring.
One week later, we were standing in Rockefeller Plaza with our masks on while she opened the box and put on her new ring. It is always a joy to help clients envision their dream jewelry, and then make it a reality.
