Contemporary Designs from Classic Pieces
Final Amethyst Ring (corresponds with ring #1)
What do you do when you inherit a collection that just isn't to your taste?
This recently happened to a client of mine. She showed me several pieces (some are pictured below), and we worked together to custom create two special rings and a pair of earrings.
Part of her inherited jewelry collection: 1. Amethyst Ring 2. Two Blue Topaz Rings 3. Aquamarine Ring
Her aesthetic taste includes clean lines and simple designs. To match her style, I created sketches for the gemstones we had, and also showed her several designs I have created for other clients.
Afterward, I removed all of the gemstones and sold the gold. We took the proceeds from the old gold to offset the price for the new jewelry.
My client approved three of the ring and earring designs for the amethyst (1), blue topaz (2), and aquamarine (3) gemstones.
Final Blue Topaz Earrings (corresponds with rings #2)
I took the approved designs to my model maker, and he created a 3-D wax model of the sketch I drew. Such a model is an exact rendering of the gold setting for the ring or earring, specifically tailored to securely hold each of her gems.
A benefit of working with a seasoned professional like myself is our extensive network of industry experts. It took me years to find the right model maker, and we've been working together ever since.
Final Aquamarine Ring (corresponds with ring #3)
Hopefully these projects will be the beginning of a custom jewelry collection that matches my client's exact tastes.
Just because you inherit a stylized collection doesn't mean you can't make it uniquely your own.
TIP: All your jewelry should be enjoyed. If you have a piece sitting in your jewelry box that you haven't worn for a while, this could be the right time to redesign it to match your unique taste.
