What to do with Grandma’s diamond

by Jane Becker on June 3, 2019

One of my friends contacted me because she wanted take her Grandmother’s diamond engagement ring and create something she could wear everyday.   One of the prongs on the ring was broken, so she could either repair Grandma’s ring or come up with an entirely new design.  Since she prefers contemporary styling, and Grandma’s ring was classic style, she decided to redo it.

Her only requirements were that the diamond be set securely and not too high.  She is a doctor and she wanted to be able to wear the ring to work, so it either had to be solid in the back or open on the sides so the ring could be cleaned easily.

I came up with four different ring styles that would accommodate this over 2 carat round diamond.  She has a very small finger and was concerned that too large a ring would take over her whole finger.  We decided on this unique setting, and we added a few smaller diamonds to enhance the setting.  As soon as she put it on it fit perfectly and was exactly what she wanted.  I was able to satisfy every one of her needs!

Tip:   If you want to keep your rings clean, it is best not to put on lotions or use cleansers while wearing the ring.
